April, 2024
- The Env. Eng. capstone design class sent two teams to WERC Environmental Design Contest at New Mexico State University and won eight trophies! Jiasi is an AI of the class, and Po-Chang and Matthew provided guidance to the Hydrogen team in their experiment.

- A team involving two EBBLers - Yue and Jiasi won the first place in the wastewater category at the Midwest Student Design Contest in Madison, Wisconsin. They will represent the State of Missouri at the national contest this fall at WEFTEC (McKelvey Engineering News).

- Zixuan has been selected to receive the 2024 W. Wesley Eckenfelder Graduate Research Award from the AAEES/AEESP (McKelvey Engineering News).


March, 2024
- EBBL members attended the 2024 MWEA/MO-AWWA Joint Annual Meeting. In the Fresh Ideas Student Poster Competition, Kaichao won the 2nd place and Yue won the 3rd place in the Wastewater Category. Yue was awarded the MWEA 2024 Ronald Layton Scholarship (McKelvey Engineering News).

- Joshua Lovell started his visiting research in the EBBL. He is a MS student at Leibniz University Hannover.

- The Center for Water Innovation hosted its first annual research symposium (McKelvey Engineering News). Zixuan Wang was a co-winner of Graduate Student Flash Talk Competition on the symposium.

- Jiasi Sun teamed with Haoran Yang (SIUC) takes the first place in Intelligent Water Systems Challenge hosted by IWEA (McKelvey Engineering News).

- Kaichao, Shruti, and Daran participated in the student design competition organized by Central State Water Environmental Association. They will represent the State of Missouri to attend the national comeptition at WEFTEC in the fall.

- Hayden received the Undergraduate Student Award from the Division of Environmental Chemistry of the American Chemical Society.

- Dr. He received a NSF GOALI grant to work on membrane bioelectrochemical reactors (MBERs) for wastewater treatment.
- Jim was selected to receive a Pratt Fellowship from the Via Department. Congrats!
- EBBL has moved to Virginia Tech, and Dr. He joined the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as an Associate Professor (with tenure).
